Situation
The peak season surcharge (PSS) announcement remains in effect, with implementation scheduled for June 1, 2025. However, the announced amount is significantly lower than the initial figure, and it is possible that the surcharge will ultimately not be implemented. The PSS announcement remains valid for shipments to the USA, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the Bahamas.
Obstacles
Shipping lines are mainly looking for volumes to US Southeast Coast ports such as Charleston and Savannah.
Outlook
If the PSS is successfully implemented, there could be significant rate differences between carriers, as not all carriers will adopt it. The PSS ranges from 200 to 300 USD per 40HC and currently applies only to FAK tariffs and new business.
