The market is still volatile, and rates have increased for all reefer trades, especially Far East Westbound and Latin America Export.
Disruptions in the Red Sea and the low water situation in the Panama Canal are causing longer transit times, which has a major impact on reefer equipment availability. Forecasting is important as there is always the possibility of equipment shortages.
The fresh fruit season from February to July has an impact on reefer equipment demand in South America.
There are space constraints on several trade lanes, particularly Far East Westbound.
Direct end-to-end visibility of reefer ocean freight is becoming a standard for the world’s shipping containers. Currently, there are five critical characteristics that are expected to be monitored when shipping reefer cargo: temperature, ventilation, humidity, power and, ideally, position.
When it comes to sustainability, reefer ocean freight has a significantly lower carbon footprint than air freight.
