As of January 2026, cargo-partner Hong Kong has been certified as a Tier 2 Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) by the Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department. With this latest addition, cargo-partner now holds AEO status across a broad international network. In Europe, this includes Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, and the United Kingdom. In Asia, the company is certified in Hong Kong, India, Taiwan, and Thailand.

AEO certification is granted to companies that meet strict criteria for customs compliance, financial solvency, and security standards. This status offers significant benefits to customers, including faster customs clearance, reduced inspections, and improved supply chain reliability.

CBAM – New Requirements from January 2026
In parallel with expanding its AEO network, cargo-partner is actively supporting customers in preparing for the next implementation stage in the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) regulation, which will introduce new obligations for importers of certain goods into the EU.

From January 1, 2026, importing CBAM goods exceeding 50 metric tons per calendar year will require a valid CBAM declarant authorization. Applications for authorization are already open, and early registration is strongly recommended to avoid clearance delays.

Key regulatory changes from 2026 include:

  • 50-ton threshold exemption for companies importing less than 50 t/year (except electricity and hydrogen)

  • Mandatory CBAM registration before goods can be released for free circulation

  • First CBAM declaration due by September 30, 2027

  • Reduced certificate coverage requirement (50% of embedded emissions per quarter)

  • Option to appoint a customs representative to submit CBAM declarations

Following a strong increase in customer demand, cargo-partner offers tailored consulting services to support companies in meeting CBAM requirements. This includes monitoring import volumes to determine applicable obligations, managing the complete CBAM registration and authorization process, and assisting in the collection and verification of emissions data from suppliers. The service also covers the review of tariff classifications and net mass to ensure accuracy, as well as the establishment of internal compliance procedures to maintain ongoing adherence to CBAM regulations.

With its expanded AEO-certified network and year-long expertise in customs regulations, cargo-partner provides a secure and efficient framework for international trade while guiding customers through complex new requirements such as CBAM.
