Trade Analysis: Far East Eastbound

Situation

There is currently no indication of when the problems in the Red Sea will end. The number of ships diverted via the Cape of Good Hope route has reached an all-time high and shows no signs of decreasing. Vessel schedules continue to fluctuate, impacting on-time performance and reliability.

There is sufficient capacity to meet demand.

Obstacles

We are experiencing multiple blank sailings, leading to further schedule reliability issues for all shipping alliances. Routings via the Cape of Good Hope appear to be the new normal on this trade lane.

The high number of blank sailings out of Asia has a direct impact on backhaul departures at the beginning of May.

Outlook/Solutions

Due to the rerouting of global services, there may be equipment shortages in certain areas of the European Union (e.g. South Germany) and potential congestions at ports.
