Situation

The market remains stable. Since the tariff deal with the EU, there have been no significant changes in terms of volume or rate volatility.

Obstacles

One key question that remains is whether the new charges will apply to Chinese vessels calling at US ports. The measure would cover ships that are owned, operated, or built in China. According to the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the fees are scheduled to take effect on October 14, 2025. The initial charge is set at USD 50 per net ton, which, based on current calculations, could result in additional costs of up to USD 500 per container.

Outlook

The situation is expected to become clearer by the end of Q3, which should also bring more stability to the markets for the rest of the year.
