Every wood product gets special treatment

At cargo-partner’s iLogistics Center in Clarksville, Tennessee, the European manufacturer of wood-based panels and laminates benefits from comprehensive warehousing services with domestic distribution throughout all of the USA. We took a closer look at the cooperation between the companies and talked to Arnulf Penker, President of FunderMax North America Inc.

Founded in 1890, FunderMax is a leading European supplier of engineered wood products and decorative laminates with over 1,500 employees worldwide. In addition to its headquarters in Austria, the company is also represented in several other countries in Europe as well as in India and the USA.

In 2018, FunderMax was looking for a strategic warehouse for its distribution in the Southeast of the USA. The company chose cargo-partner’s iLogistics Center in Clarksville, Tennessee for its central location as well as its comprehensive equipment for handling heavy and oversized goods. Today, FunderMax makes use of the iLogistics Center for stocking, cross-docking and domestic distribution throughout all of the USA. The warehouse provides a total area of 14,000 m² along with a range of value added services including picking and packing, relabeling, packaging and assembly. In addition to warehousing and value added services, cargo-partner also provides FunderMax with road transports throughout all of the USA. Some recent projects include deliveries of FunderMax’ products to an airport, a school and football stadium.

Arnulf Penker, President of FunderMax North America Inc., explains the motivations for entering into the long-term partnership: “The cooperation with cargo-partner is a win-win situation, with good team work and partnership on all levels. The warehouse workers treat FunderMax like their own business, the office staff is available around the clock to provide flexible solutions, and the management is constantly looking for ways to improve service even further.”

“One of our key customers had a glitch in their enterprise resource planning (ERP) system and did not have enough material on stock to finish an urgent delivery for a high stakes end-customer. They called us on a Friday at 7 PM with an order to be delivered Saturday. We reached a cargo-partner team member who immediately organized a truck and warehouse staff for Saturday morning. In less than 24 hours that weekend, the customer received a full truck load of our material. Our customer was amazed!”

The main cargo handled for FunderMax at the cargo-partner warehouse consists of phenolic panels, which pose a special challenge due to their heavy weight and oversized dimensions. For instance, the forklift used needs to be strong enough to lift the panels, but also small enough to fit into a container for off-loading. cargo-partner’s iLogistics Center in Clarksville meets this need with its state-of-the-art equipment and ample handling space.
