Company Profile

ENGEL is one of the leading companies in plastics machine manufacturing. The ENGEL group offers all technology modules for plastics processing from a single source: injection molding machines for thermoplastics and elastomers, as well as automation. ENGEL has nine production plants in Europe, North America and Asia as well as subsidiaries and representatives for more than 85 countries.

Initial Situation

To optimize its worldwide spare parts supply, ENGEL was looking for a competent logistics provider who could help centralize and thus streamline the company’s international spare parts logistics. The newly constructed cargo-partner iLogistics Center near Vienna Airport offered the ideal platform for this challenge.

Solutions

After assessing ENGEL’s requirements over the scope of several planning workshops, cargo-partner adapted the warehouse layout based on these standards and provided the required technical equipment. In addition, a specially assembled team of cargo-partner employees was trained by ENGEL for the required processes. The main requirements included the storage of small parts, pallets, long and heavy goods in a UV-, dust- and dirt-protected environment. The cargo-partner iLogistics Center offers a comprehensive high-bay racking system including small parts shelves, wide and narrow aisle shelving, cantilever racking, Lean-Lift and drawer cabinets with constant temperature and humidity control. Over a span of three months, cargo-partner transferred 27,000 stock keeping units from ENGEL’s production facilities to the new iLogistics Center. The transfer was executed smoothly and completed three weeks before the deadline. By centralizing its spare parts logistics near an important delivery hub, ENGEL enables later pick-up by transport providers as well as later order placement by clients. Shipments can be consolidated more efficiently, and the reduction of short-distance transport offers greater independence from potential service errors and delays. An efficient exchange of information is ensured by 20 interfaces between cargo-partner’s warehouse management system and ENGEL’s enterprise resource planning system.
