Logistics Pilot Project with Leading Automotive Supplier

Comprehensive Warehouse Service Facilitates Manufacturing Processes

“We have very specific requirements regarding process quality in our parts logistics operations, and we are very satisfied with the flexible solutions provided by cargo-partner. In addition to the timely delivery of all parts, the reliable pre-sorting facilitates our production process.”

Vladimir Lauko, Logistic Manager, Webasto

Company Profile

The Webasto Group with headquarters in Stockdorf near Munich is a global innovative systems partner to almost all automobile manufacturers and is among the top 100 suppliers in this sector worldwide. In its core business areas, the company develops and produces sunroofs, panorama roofs and convertible roofs as well as thermo systems for all drive types. In addition, with battery systems and charging solutions, Webasto is building up a product portfolio for electromobility. Webasto has more than 50 locations around the globe, 30 of which are production sites.

Initial Situation

The cooperation began in 2014 and is constantly being expanded. When Webasto increased the production volume at one of its factories in Slovakia, the company urgently required expertly managed storage space, since the capacities at Webasto’s own site were no longer sufficient. Webasto was confident that cargo-partner was equipped to meet the company’s strict requirements and specialized logistics demands. In addition, the cargo-partner logistics facility in Dunajska Streda with 14,200 m² of storage space was a convenient choice due to its proximity to the Webasto production facility.

Solutions

Following the guidelines given by their business partner, cargo-partner provides Websto with storage space and personnel services as well as dedicated work areas for Webasto staff. These members of the Webasto logistics department ensure quality control according to the company’s specifications. Due to this strict process and the complexity of production, Webasto uses their own scanners and printers as well as a special warehouse management system. Most recently, Webasto launched a pilot project in cooperation with cargo-partner called “External Production Supermarket”: In the scope of this innovative project, the components are forwarded directly from the cargo-partner warehouse to the production line of Webasto’s assembly plant, obliterating the need for a prior preparation step in the Webasto sub-warehouse. The individual manufacturing elements are presorted in the cargo-partner warehouse and assembled on special trolleys so that manufacturing can proceed smoothly and quickly. Both cooperation partners are delighted by the success of this time- and labor-efficient pilot project which is likely to be expanded upon in the future. The shuttle truck serving both locations in two-hour intervals during two different production shifts has also proven to be a useful aid.
